Climate Scientist Dr. Michael E. Mann Visits Campus

On April 26, nearly 90 students from eighth through twelfth grade enjoyed a guest lecture from climate scientist Dr. Michael E. Mann, who is fighting against disinformation and climate change.
Dr. Mann is a Presidential Distinguished Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science and director of the Penn Center for Science, Sustainability, and the Media (PCSSM) at the University of Pennsylvania.

The author of several books, most recently “The New Climate War,” Dr. Mann has received many honors and awards, including selection by Scientific American as one of the fifty leading visionaries in science and technology in 2002. He contributed, with other IPCC authors, to the award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Earlier this year, he won a million-dollar defamation verdict. He was represented by John Williams P’01, who helped make the visit possible. He spoke to St. Andrew’s students about the importance of scientific facts.

“Change the world for the better. That’s the charge. That’s our mission,” Dr. Mann said. “And I know you will all go out and do that.”
