Assistant Director of Communications

St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, MD seeks an Assistant Director of Communications to begin May 1, 2025.
The mission of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is to know and inspire each child in an inclusive community dedicated to exceptional teaching, learning, and service. The school’s Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning serves to introduce the science of learning to primary and secondary schools around the world.

Founded in 1978, St. Andrew’s is a co-educational independent day school, enrolling approximately 715 students in preschool through grade 12. Position: Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Assistant Director of Communications is a full-time, in-person, exempt position that will be responsible for supporting all communications office initiatives with a special focus on refining the School’s institutional voice across external marketing platforms, primarily social media, and creating and curating all digital content for St. Andrew’s. The Communications staff is a part of the Advancement Office and works closely with its team in addition to the Admission Office, academic departments and The Center for Transformative Teaching & Learning (the CTTL) to help each team achieve its strategic goals.
Primary Responsibilities
  • The Assistant Director will be responsible for all digital and print marketing content creation and curation for St. Andrew’s. Content includes writing as well as photography, video, podcasts, and other emerging digital marketing collateral. Platforms include, but are not limited to social media, newsletters, website, and print magazine.
  • The Assistant Director will manage a social media advertising budget, with all expenses approved by the Director of Communications.
  • The Assistant Director will collaborate with Admission and Advancement to support admission, retention, and advancement goals through targeted messaging, third-party partnerships, and communications initiatives.
  • Several times a year, the Assistant Director will participate in digital giving drives which require pre-planning and delivery of video content as well as the ability to quickly recognize emerging patterns and to adapt messages and content. The position will require training on the Give Campus platform.
  • In collaboration with Admission and Advancement, the Assistant Director will develop, implement, and analyze content strategy for web and social media.
  • The Assistant Director will strengthen relationships with School content creators to unify messaging beyond official channels.
  • The Assistant Director will manage a student internship program and/or student social media advisory group.
  • The Assistant Director will support the Communications Office with editing, writing, proofreading, and other marketing needs as required.
  • The Assistant Director will manage weekly parent newsletters and monthly/quarterly newsletters to other constituents. This position will require training on the Constant Contact platform.

COMPENSATION:
  • Minimum Annual Salary: $80,000
  • Maximum Annual Salary: $105,000

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, as well as 3-4 years of experience building collaborative relationships and writing for diverse audiences. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in both nonprofit fundraising communications and product marketing. The candidate should be an excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use data to inform all decisions. The candidate will be proficient in all social media platforms and can adapt content to suit the platform and audience. The candidate will have experience with paid social media. The candidate will have some management experience. Knowledge of the independent school market and familiarity with Adobe Suite, Constant Contact, GiveCampus, Blackbaud, and social media platforms will be an advantage in hiring, as will a highly collaborative work style.
