It was quite a weekend for St. Andrew’s athletes, both past and present with athletes winning championships, deciding on their future and beginning their college careers.

On Friday, a pair of athletes signed National Letters-of-Intent to play for NCAA Division I schools next year. Anthony Duruji ’17 will play basketball for Louisiana Tech and Alex Smith ’17 will play lacrosse for University of Hartford. This is the second straight year the boys basketball team has had a player sign a NLI to play Division I basketball.

On Saturday, the cross country teams competed in the Maryland-Washington, D.C., Small School State Meet with girls cross country taking home its third straight small school state title. Joy Reeves was the top finisher for St. Andrew’s, finishing second overall with a time of 21:16. Isabelle Jeppsen was fourth with a time of 21:32. Sari Postal added a 14th place finish with a time of 23:43 as the Lions won the meet with a score of 52.

The boys team finished third at the meet with the team posting its fastest time over the past 15 years. Luke Armbruster, who won the MAC Championship a few weeks ago, was second with a time of 16:37. Sam Beesley and Colin Hendrie also had impressive finishes, with times of 17:26 (9th place) and 18:06 (13th place), respectively. The boys team had a score of 59 points, finishing behind Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, which had 43 points, and The Heights, which won with 30 points.

Also on Saturday, a St. Andrew’s alum made his collegiate debut as George Muresan took the court for Georgetown in its home win over USC Upstate.
