Elementary Teacher

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School seeks a creative, energetic, and visionary educator to become the lead Elementary teacher at the Lower School. 
In the Lower School program at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, the Elementary Teacher is responsible for curriculum implementation, parent and staff communications, and classroom supervision for their respective homeroom and grade level. The Elementary Teacher reports to the Head of the Lower School. This is a salaried, benefits-eligible, full-time position for the 2024-25 school year beginning August 19, 2024.

Classroom Responsibilities:
  • Create and sustain classroom culture based on the mission and values of the school.
  • Teach major subject areas, including language arts, math, social studies, and social-emotional learning lessons weekly in a self-contained classroom
  • Use relevant technology in order to support instruction.
  • Prepare course objectives, outlines, and lesson plans for the appropriate plan of study, following curriculum guidelines and school requirements
  • Plan, design, and implement assessment of student progress.  
  • Evaluate informally and formally student performance and document student work in an organized and timely manner
  • Maintain accurate and complete records on student progress and development
  • Communicate as needed with parents regarding student progress and via formal conferences and written reports.  
  • Communicate classroom news to families on a weekly basis through the use of the lower school newsletter
  • Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, and individuality in all students.
  • Organize and coordinate class field trips and interactive learning opportunities
  • Prepare bulletin boards
  • Keep attendance and all other records as required by the School
  • Manage classroom budget
 
Grade Level, Division, and School-wide Responsibilities:
  • Attend weekly team meetings: collaborate, share plans and materials with team
  • Plan and develop curricula and assessments with grade-level team
  • Attend and participate actively in regular division and full faculty meetings
  • Attend and assist with assemblies and special events (Halloween, performances, Grandparents Day, Walkathon, etc.)
  • Participate in Admission work
  • Perform assigned duties (lunch, recess, carpool, etc.)
  • Pursue ongoing personal professional development opportunities and Keep up-to-date with child development, subject areas, technology skills, teaching resources, and instructional methods in order to make relevant changes to teaching practices.
  • Attend school functions as requested
  • Support the Episcopal identity of the school
